Let Them Know! - Min.Harrell L. Henton
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” — Luke 19:10
Although Jesus’ earthly ministry is recorded primarily in the Gospels, His evangelistic mission stretches from Genesis to Revelation. The entire Bible reveals God’s relentless pursuit of humanity, culminating in Christ’s work to redeem sinners.
From the beginning, God pursued those who had fallen. After Adam and Eve sinned, God asked, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). This wasn’t because He lacked knowledge—it was an invitation to repentance and restoration. Jesus would later embody that same pursuit, leaving heaven to seek those separated from God.
Throughout the Old Testament, God repeatedly sent prophets, judges, and messengers to call His people back. These were shadows of the ultimate Evangelist who was to come.
Jesus intentionally placed Himself among those others avoided.
Jesus demonstrated that evangelism is not waiting for people to come to us—it is going to where they are.
Jesus never compromised truth to gain followers, nor did He withhold grace because of sin. To the woman caught in adultery, He said, “Neither do I condemn you,” followed by, “Go and sin no more” (John 8:11). To Nicodemus, He explained the necessity of being born again (John 3:3). To the rich young ruler, He lovingly exposed the idol of wealth (Mark 10:17–22). Every conversation pointed people toward repentance and faith. Jesus never intended evangelism to end with His earthly ministry. He sent out the Twelve (Matthew 10). He later sent the Seventy-Two (Luke 10). After His resurrection, He commissioned all disciples: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19–20) The mission that began with Jesus continues through His church today.
Ask yourself:
Evangelism is not merely a program of the church—it is the heartbeat of Christ. As His disciples, we are called to reflect His compassion, proclaim His truth, and participate in His mission. As followers of Christ, we are called to continue His mission by sharing the gospel through both our words and our daily example. Every conversation is an opportunity to reflect the love of Jesus and point others to Him.
